What has changed in the political scenario after the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal?
If the current political climate persists, our democracy will be destroyed. Our liberation fighters did not sacrifice their lives for this. If the BJP continues to use the Enforcement Directorate as a tool to intimidate the opposition, as it has done in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, the Constitution would have no value. Take a look at the corrupt individuals joining the BJP, as evidenced by the freshly disclosed electoral bonds data. Observe how the BJP benefited from the tampering of eight of the thirty-six votes cast in the Chandigarh mayoral race in front of the camera.
How are you prepared to face the situation?
Before the elections, the public never expresses their true feelings. People are observing the abuse of all government entities in an attempt to stifle opposition. The outcomes of June 4 will usher in a new era in our nation’s history.
Do you have any fear that Central agencies could take action in Punjab over its liquor policy, on the lines of the Delhi liquor policy case?
There is no significance to any noise. We raised the state’s alcohol revenue to Rs 9,200 crore per year from Rs 6,200 crore. We are about to surpass the Rs 10,000-crore threshold. This substantially exceeds the sums collected by the previous Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal regimes. All they had aided were their financial backers and families.
You accuse the BJP of targeting the Opposition, but there are allegations that your government has done the same to over 10 top Congress leaders.
The cases of the two parties’ leaders are not comparable. Sunder Sham Arora, the former minister of industries and commerce, was apprehended for accepting a bribe of Rs 50 lakh. Bharat Bhushan Ashu, the former minister of food and supplies, was detained for his direct involvement in the tender scam. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, the former minister of forests, was apprehended for his part in a forest scam. The ED hasn’t even been able to show a money trail in our case. Sanjay Singh, the arrested Rajya Sabha MP, was not directly or even indirectly involved in the policy decision.
