Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to realizing the dreams of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru, and Shaheed Sukhdev. He assured that every possible effort would be made to honor their legacy.
Speaking at a state-level event commemorating their martyrdom, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized that the occasion was not political but a solemn tribute to these great freedom fighters. He highlighted the government’s dedicated initiatives to preserve and promote their legacy for future generations, including the construction of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Medical College at a cost of ₹300 crore.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann noted that, thanks to the government’s persistent efforts, Mohali airport was renamed after Shaheed Bhagat Singh, a step neglected by previous administrations. He stressed the importance of naming institutions after martyrs to keep their contributions alive in public memory.
Additionally, the Chief Minister mentioned the inauguration of the Nishan-e-Inquilaab plaza, featuring a 30-foot bronze statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh on Airport Road, Mohali. He expressed hope that such tributes would serve as a guiding light for visitors, educating them about the sacrifices made by the legendary revolutionary.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of the martyrs. He lamented that corruption, nepotism, and poverty still persist, failing to reflect the ideals for which these heroes laid down their lives. He criticized past governments, claiming they looted the country more ruthlessly than colonial rulers.
Highlighting governance reforms, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann pointed out that since his administration took charge in March 2022, significant steps have been taken to benefit the people, including providing free electricity to 90% of households, purchasing a power plant to boost energy production, opening 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics offering free healthcare to over three crore patients, and granting government jobs to over 52,000 youth on a merit basis. He also mentioned the closure of 18 toll plazas, saving ₹63 lakh daily for commuters.
Paying tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stressed the government’s commitment to uplifting weaker sections by providing quality education. He asserted that ‘Schools of Eminence’ would fulfill Ambedkar’s vision by empowering bright students from underprivileged backgrounds.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann expressed confidence that Punjab would soon emerge as a leading state due to the government’s sustained efforts. He urged the youth to draw inspiration from Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s ideals and work towards a progressive and prosperous India.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann concluded by honoring the martyr’s family, paying respects at the samadhi of Bhagat Singh’s father, Kishan Singh, and offering floral tributes at Bhagat Singh’s statue. He reaffirmed that every initiative of his government aims to build the Punjab envisioned by the great revolutionary.
