Under the proactive and visionary leadership of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab has been consistently improving its cleanliness and sanitation standards. Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the state have shown notable advancement, reflected in their better performance in the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 results released today by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Providing insights, Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh shared that Punjab has made significant strides in its cleanliness mission. He expressed great pride in the fact that 46 ULBs in the state have been awarded the prestigious Water Plus certification—the highest number among all states in this year’s survey. In addition, 52 ULBs achieved ODF++ status, 43 received ODF+ certification, and 22 were declared ODF. Nine ULBs from Punjab also secured spots among the top 100 cleanest ULBs in the country.
Dr. Singh further noted that under the Garbage Free City Star Rating framework, 25 ULBs were awarded a one-star rating—the highest tally since 2016. Impressively, Mandi Gobindgarh earned a three-star rating, while the Bathinda Municipal Corporation was honored with the State Award for Promising Swachh Shahar. He emphasized that continuous efforts are being made to enhance sanitation, waste management, and overall cleanliness. Financial support is being extended to ULBs to strengthen infrastructure, with regular monitoring of developmental projects in these areas.
