Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday encouraged girls to actively participate in politics, emphasizing their role in shaping policy decisions and driving necessary societal changes.
Speaking at the annual convocation of Government College for Girls, the Chief Minister noted that while women have excelled in various fields, politics remains largely male-dominated. He stressed that the time has come for women to break this barrier and contribute significantly to governance. Mann highlighted that women’s involvement in politics is crucial for creating an equitable society and serving the larger interests of the state.
CM Bhagwant further stated that increased female participation in politics would strengthen democracy at the grassroots level. He urged women to cast their votes wisely, ensuring the election of capable leaders who can drive Punjab’s progress. Mann expressed confidence that such engagement would help make Punjab a leading, prosperous state.
CM Bhagwant also lauded the achievements of girls in various fields, acknowledging the role of teachers in shaping their success. He extended his best wishes to the students, expressing hope that they would carve a distinguished path in their careers. He praised Principal Suman Lata for her efforts in guiding and mentoring students.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, Mann shared that his administration has appointed eight women as Deputy Commissioners, six as Senior Superintendents of Police, and 18 as Additional Deputy Commissioners—the highest number ever posted by any government in these key positions.
He also mentioned that in the past 36 months, the Punjab government has provided over 52,000 jobs based purely on merit, without any corruption or favoritism. CM Bhagwant expressed confidence that these young professionals would play a vital role in Punjab’s socio-economic growth.
Encouraging students to draw inspiration from global success stories, CM Bhagwant urged them to overcome challenges through hard work and dedication. He assured them of the government’s support in achieving their dreams. Using the analogy of a bouquet of diverse flowers, he emphasized the beauty of inclusivity and the strength of diversity.
CM Bhagwant also spoke about Punjab’s legacy as the nation’s food bowl and its reputation for courage, resilience, and enterprise. He highlighted the state’s rich cultural heritage and the contributions of its saints, seers, and martyrs in fighting injustice.
Reiterating his commitment to public welfare, CM Bhagwant said that traditional political parties resent his leadership because he comes from a common background and works tirelessly for the people. He criticized these leaders for believing they had a divine right to rule and accused them of misleading the public for years.
Recalling his early struggles in Ludhiana during the 1990s, CM Bhagwant advised students to never lose heart in the face of failure, as setbacks are stepping stones to success. He urged them to remain humble, work diligently, and achieve success through perseverance and dedication.
