Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday reiterated his commitment to further push pro-people and development-centric policies to make Punjab a leading state in all aspects of life.
Speaking at an event celebrating Punjab’s achievement in the National Achievement Survey, the Chief Minister noted that the state had moved from the 29th position in 2017 to the top spot today due to the relentless efforts of the government. He credited teachers—whom he called nation-builders—for playing a pivotal role in this success. CM Bhagwant emphasized that Punjab is now making remarkable progress in both education and overall development.
Encouraging teachers to educate students about Punjab’s rich cultural heritage, CM Bhagwant said this was crucial for their holistic development and for keeping them connected to their roots. He highlighted the state government’s focus on skill development to help students lead a life of dignity and self-reliance.
CM Bhagwant further stated that the AAP, under national convener Arvind Kejriwal, had successfully made education, healthcare, and electricity central themes in politics—sectors previously neglected by other parties. He affirmed that all government actions are focused on the public’s welfare and promised to leave no stone unturned in this mission.
Criticizing past administrations, the Chief Minister said previous governments had ignored government schools as the children of influential leaders studied in elite institutions. Government schools, he said, were reduced to midday meal centres rather than centers of learning.
CM Bhagwant stated that his government is working diligently to reshape the future of students by delivering quality education at the school level. He spoke of an ongoing “education revolution” in Punjab, which is bridging economic divides and transforming lives. Education remains the topmost priority, he said, as it is key to the state’s progress.
He expressed confidence that the transformation underway in government schools will produce outstanding results and set Punjab as a national example. CM Bhagwant noted that the state is improving infrastructure and ensuring that teachers are dedicated solely to educational duties, not other administrative tasks.
Highlighting a key reform, he pointed to the reintroduction of Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) in government schools—a common practice in private institutions but previously missing in public ones. These meetings, he said, foster meaningful communication between parents and teachers for students’ betterment.
CM Bhagwant proudly shared that over 54,000 youths have been given jobs strictly based on merit, without corruption or favoritism, making them active contributors to Punjab’s socio-economic development. Every decision, he stressed, is taken in the interest of the people and the state.
Speaking earlier, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia said quality education in government schools was once just a dream due to the grip of the education mafia. He criticized past governments for favoring private schools run by bureaucrats and politicians. Sisodia lauded Punjab for overcoming these odds and setting new benchmarks in education.
He remarked that the future of nearly 24 lakh students is now secure under this educational reform, thanks to the hard work of teachers, principals, and staff aligned with the government’s vision. Sisodia called this a major milestone and said Punjab is only beginning its rise in the education sector.
Cabinet Ministers Harpal Cheema, Aman Arora, Harjot Singh Bains, and Barinder Goyal were also present at the event.
