CM Bhajan Lal Sharma: High level meeting on three criminal laws

CM Bhajan Lal Sharma said that the state government is working with full commitment to ensure better law and order in the state. He assured that there would be no dearth of resources required for strengthening law and order and effective implementation of the new laws.

CM Bhajan Lal Sharma on Monday addressed a high-level meeting of the Home Department at the Chief Minister’s residence to discuss the implementation of the Indian Penal Code, Indian Civil Defence Code and Indian Evidence Act in the state. He said that providing security to the common man and providing speedy justice is the priority of the government, under which many policy decisions have been taken. Apart from this, special provisions have also been made in the State Budget 2025-26 to provide necessary resources to the Home Department.

Instructions to fill vacancies soon
CM Bhajan Lal Sharma directed to expedite the process of filling up the vacant posts in the Home Department and expedite the promotion process so as to ensure effective control over crimes. He said that the department should compile the information of the personnel retiring in the coming years so that the recruitment process could be started on time.
CM Bhajan Lal Sharmaalso directed to compulsorily train all the personnel associated with the Home Department on the new laws. At the same time, he called for confiscation of properties earned from criminal activities and collection of fingerprints of arrested persons and effective service of e-summon so that criminals can be closely monitored. He also mentioned that under the new laws, there is a provision for release of first-time offenders on completion of one-third of their sentence, for which a decision should be taken with sensitivity.

Officials informed the meeting that the new laws are being implemented as per the directions given by the Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah and the Union Home Secretary. So far, more than 84% of police personnel and 98.5% of investigating officers have been trained on the new laws. So far, more than 1 lakh 12 thousand FIRs have been registered in the state under the new laws, out of which more than 75 thousand cases have been disposed of. Issues like strengthening of Forensic Science Laboratory, Zero FIR, e-evidence were also discussed in detail in the meeting.

On the occasion, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister J. C. Sharma, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister J. C. Sharma, Secretary GAD Devesh Kumar and other senior officers were also present.
