Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami meets Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, seeks approval for ₹7,628 crore infrastructure projects to boost state development.
Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday, October 9, to discuss key development issues concerning the state. During the meeting, CM Dhami sought approval for four major infrastructure projects worth ₹7,628 crore aimed at improving water resource management, energy infrastructure, and public service delivery systems in Uttarakhand. The Finance Minister responded positively, indicating support for accelerating the state’s development agenda.
Four Major Projects Proposed for State Development
Chief Minister Dhami urged the central government to approve the following key projects:

₹2,000 crore Water and Sanitation Urban Infrastructure Development Project

₹424 crore DRIP Phase III (Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project)

₹3,638 crore Uttarakhand Climate Resilient Intra-State Power Transmission System Development

₹1,566 crore Uttarakhand Power Distribution Reliability Improvement Project
These projects are expected to significantly strengthen Uttarakhand’s basic infrastructure, water resource management, energy sector, and enhance the public service delivery system across the state.

Focus on Urban Drainage and Water Management
CM Dhami highlighted the urgent need to improve urban water drainage systems due to increasing population pressure in Uttarakhand’s cities. Given the state’s ecological sensitivity and heavy rainfall patterns, the improvement of urban stormwater drainage systems is crucial. Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) have been prepared for stormwater drainage in the 10 most rain-affected districts of the state, with an estimated cost of ₹8,579.47 crore.
He requested the Finance Minister to sanction these projects under the Capital Investment Scheme to improve the drainage infrastructure and reduce urban flooding.

Apart from the above, the state government has also submitted proposals for:

₹800 crore Water Supply System Enhancement Project
CM Dhami requested prompt approval for these projects to ensure efficient financial management and improved water supply systems across Uttarakhand.
Finance Minister Promises Support
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assured CM Dhami of the central government’s full support in fast-tracking approvals for the proposed projects. She emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating Uttarakhand’s sustainable development and infrastructure growth.
