Bhagwant Singh Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, visited the Ghaggar River and flood-prone districts on Tuesday to assess the state of preparations for preventing flooding at the ground level.
In order to verify the preparations being taken to prevent floods, the Chief Minister traveled to the regions around the Ghaggar River with senior state government officials. He claimed that this was different from previous instances in which the governor would travel to the flooded districts. According to Bhagwant Singh Mann, the previous leaders scarcely provided any help to the people because they also brazenly took advantage of these occasions for photo ops.
In stark contrast, the Chief Minister stated that he has visited flood-prone districts to evaluate the ongoing efforts to prevent floods. According to him, doing this will guarantee that efforts to prevent flooding are carried out successfully and that no one loses their lives or any property. According to Bhagwant Singh Mann, the people of the state have given his government a resounding mandate to serve them, and he is doing everything in his power to fulfill that mandate.
Having conversations with the individuals The Chief Minister added that the Punjab government has taken a historic step to prevent floods in the state by planning the discharge of rivers, streams, and chokes based on a 100-year flood pattern and notifying the flood plains of the rivers and drains/choes in accordance with the Northern India Canal and Drainage Act. He added that there has also been assurance of the strengthening of the major river embankments and the restriction of work on the advance bundh. According to Bhagwant Singh Mann, a database of individuals, including bag suppliers, wire binders, earthmoving equipment owners, tractor trolley owners, divers, and local volunteers, has been assembled for the emergency response system in order to handle emergency situations.
According to the Chief Minister, filled and empty cement bags would be kept in reserve at key places in case of need. Bhagwant Singh Mann went on to say that in order to reduce flooding, bamboo plantations are being established on the inner banks of rivers. Similarly, he claimed that the barriers to the floodwaters’ sheet flow that were created by the NHAI, B&R, and Mandi Board have been located and are being removed.
The Chief Minister claimed that as a regular guy, he is aware of the difficulties that the people in the state endure. He declared that his goal in all of his endeavors is to guarantee the wellbeing of the average person, and he leaves no stone unturned in this regard. According to Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government’s first objective is safeguarding people’s welfare in addition to progress and prosperity.
The Chief Minister went on to say that in order to prevent breaches, his government will make sure that more than 2.5 lakh sand bags are stored at different points along the banks of the Ghaggar River in the Sangrur district. He added that a survey has already been initiated for the rehabilitation of the roads damaged by the floods, and that the road connecting Moonak with Khanauri through Mandvi will also be strengthened shortly. Additionally, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Makorad Sahib, a government high school, will be upgraded to Senior Secondary level.
