CM Mohan Yadav has instructed departmental officials to hold regular interdepartmental meetings to prevent road accidents across the state.
CM Mohan emphasized that any safety deficiencies identified on roads must be immediately addressed. CM Dr. Yadav also directed that citizens be provided with cleanliness and basic amenities at bus stops. Strengthening the transport department’s revenue monitoring system was another key directive. These instructions were issued during a transport department review meeting held at the Mantralaya on Tuesday. Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Jain was also present.
Mukhyamantri Sugam Transport Seva’ to Launch Soon from Indore
CM Dr. Yadav directed that the ‘Mukhyamantri Sugam Transport Seva’ be launched promptly from Indore. He emphasised ensuring passenger comfort and affordable fares while promoting the use of electric vehicles and associated infrastructure. CM Dr. Yadav instructed strict adherence to all rules and regulations governing the transport service. The service will initially operate from Indore, the state’s largest transport hub.
Enhanced Road Safety Measures
The Chief Minister emphasised that city and village names must be clearly displayed on the front glass of buses and at bus stops. Speed limits must be strictly enforced, and drivers’ documents should be regularly verified. Training and capacity building of transport department officials and staff were highlighted as key steps to improving management and efficiency.
Transport Minister Shri Uday Pratap Singh noted that modernisation efforts are ongoing, with modern equipment being provided to enhance staff efficiency. Strict action is being taken against drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol.
Revenue Growth and Vehicle Registration
During the meeting, it was reported that 16.6 lakh vehicles were registered this year, including over 2.58 lakh electric vehicles. The total number of on-road vehicles in the state is approximately 1.8 crore. Transport revenue reached ₹4,874 crore in 2024–25, marking a 6% increase from the previous year. Measures to further increase revenue were also discussed, including issuing notifications to authorize traffic inspectors to collect fines. Awareness campaigns will be conducted to ensure maximum participation in schemes like the Cashless Treatment Plan and Rahveer Scheme. Pollution control initiatives undertaken by the department were also highlighted.
Transport Secretary Shri Manish Singh reported that comprehensive surveys for public bus operations have been completed in Ujjain, while route surveys and bus categorization surveys in Jabalpur and Indore are nearly complete. The department is prioritizing six key areas: institutional structure and staffing, rules and tax amendments, route surveys and scheme notifications, IT platform and agency selection, transport infrastructure planning, and operator engagement and capacity building. Transport Commissioner Shri Vivek Sharma and other departmental officials attended the meeting.
