Key-Points of the Narmada-Kshipra Micro Lift Irrigation Project
The Narmada-Kshipra Multipurpose Micro Lift Irrigation Project will provide irrigation facilities to 30,218 hectares of land across 100 villages in the region. This includes 27,490 hectares across 83 villages in the Tarana and Ghatiya tehsils of the Ujjain district and 2,728 hectares across 17 villages in Shajapur tehsil of Shajapur district. The total command area of the project is 30,218 hectares.
Under this project, water will be lifted from the Omkareshwar reservoir (near Barela village in Khandwa district) using a pipeline with a 3-meter diameter, at a rate of 15 cubic meters per second, to an elevation of 435 meters. The project’s main pipeline stretches 200 kilometres, with water being lifted through six pumping stations, which are equipped with 50 pump motor sets. The total power requirement for water lifting is 89 megawatts.
For water distribution, a 2,254-kilometer pipeline network (ranging from 3 meters to 63 millimetres in diameter) has been laid out to supply water up to 2.5-hectare farm units. Additionally, 1,539 OMS (Outlet Management System) boxes have been installed, each catering to 20-hectare farm units. The entire project will be operated through SCADA technology, ensuring pressurized water delivery at 20-meter pressure per 2.5-hectare farm unit.
Aligning with Prime Minister Shri Modi’s ‘Per Drop More Crop’ initiative, farmers will benefit from sprinkler and drip irrigation systems, allowing maximum irrigation with minimal water usage. This method eliminates the need for land levelling, ensuring efficient irrigation, increased productivity, and optimal water conservation.
This project marks a significant milestone in irrigation, agriculture, and rural development in Madhya Pradesh, ensuring better water accessibility, higher crop yields, and improved livelihoods for farmers.
