CM Mohan Yadav said that to provide better facilities to citizens and strengthen the state’s economy, the development process for the proposed Bhopal-Indore metropolitan areas must be expedited, with a comprehensive action plan focused on harnessing economic growth opportunities. He highlighted the need for special attention to ensuring a smooth and efficient traffic system in both metropolitan regions. Dr. Yadav directed that all agencies involved in the project should work in close coordination to prepare a detailed and integrated action plan.The Chief Minister made these remarks while addressing a meeting on the formation of the proposed metropolitan areas at Samatva Bhavan (Chief Minister’s residence). State Urban Development Minister Smt. Pratima Bagri, Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Jain, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
CM Mohan Yadav said that the planned development of land within the metropolitan areas must be ensured. He urged that efforts to attract investors should begin immediately to boost industrial and business activities in the region. Dr. Yadav stressed that future planning should prioritize the development of economic corridors, as well as road and rail transport infrastructure. He directed officials to complete all related processes within a fixed timeframe to ensure timely execution.
The two metropolitan areas will also be connected to each other in Dewas-Sehore districts
CM Mohan Yadav said that the initiative to establish two metropolitan areas simultaneously will significantly contribute to the overall development of the region situated between Indore and Bhopal. He emphasized that the connectivity between these two metropolitan areas will transform a vast portion of the state into a model of coordinated and integrated development. Dr. Yadav further mentioned that suggestions from public representatives will be incorporated into the planning and implementation process. He also noted that dialogue sessions with public representatives regarding the development of both metropolitan areas have already been conducted in the past.
During the meeting, Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya emphasized that in developing these areas, special care must be taken to preserve the region’s heritage and green belts from an environmental perspective. He noted that the vision of establishing an economic corridor can be realized through the creation of the Indore-Bhopal metropolitan area. Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Shri Prahlad Singh Patel added that preliminary planning for basic infrastructure and facilities in semi-urban areas would be crucial for the effective implementation of the scheme.
Additional Chief Secretary Shri Sanjay Shukla, through a presentation, informed that the first metropolitan area is being formed by integrating Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, and Dhar districts. The second metropolitan area will comprise Bhopal, Sehore, Raisen, Vidisha, and Biaora (Rajgarh). He further stated that preparations are underway to complete the necessary legal procedures, and all formalities are expected to be finalized before the upcoming Legislative Assem bly session.
