During the ‘Molecules-to-Machine (Healthcare, Pharma, Medtech)’ session at GIS-Bhopal, experts emphasized Madhya Pradesh’s efforts in strengthening its healthcare ecosystem—covering everything from drug production to medical device manufacturing. The state is witnessing rapid expansion in pharmaceutical companies, API manufacturing units, and medical device industries.
Surge in Investments at Medical Device Park
Rajeev Chhibber, coordinator of the Association of Indian Medical Device Industry, revealed that 23 manufacturers have committed to investing in the medical device park within Vikram Industrial City, Ujjain. Government incentives under the new industrial policy are significantly reducing setup costs, encouraging more businesses to invest.
Expanding Opportunities in Medical Textiles
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his inaugural address at GIS-Bhopal, emphasized Madhya Pradesh’s potential in medical textiles. The state is emerging as a major center for producing essential medical supplies such as surgical gowns, masks, PPE kits, and sanitary napkins. He acknowledged India’s global recognition in PPE and mask production during the COVID-19 pandemic and highlighted MP’s continued progress in this sector.
Madhya Pradesh: A Leading Pharma Hub
Madhya Pradesh ranks among the top pharmaceutical states in India, with over 270 pharma companies, including more than 80 in Pithampur. The state exports pharmaceutical products to over 160 countries, with major investors such as Sun Pharma, Cipla, Lupin, Alembic, Torrent Pharma, and Alkem Laboratories contributing significantly to its growth.
Streamlined Support and Timely Approvals
Under CM Mohan Yadav s leadership, the government is providing strong support to pharma and medical device industries by streamlining licensing procedures. Approvals are being granted efficiently under the Public Service Guarantee Act to facilitate investment.
Rs 17,000 Crore Investment and 49,000 Job Opportunities
The Madhya Pradesh government’s proactive measures to boost investment in health and medical education have attracted investment proposals exceeding ₹17,000 crore at GIS-Bhopal. This is expected to generate approximately 49,000 new jobs, significantly expanding healthcare services and medical education in the state.
Gaining Global Recognition in Pharma Sector
At GIS-Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh’s capabilities in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and medical education were showcased to investors from India and abroad, enhancing its global investment appeal. The state is poised to establish itself as a premier investment destination in this sector. With over 270 drug manufacturing companies, 250 pharmacy institutions, and 39 API manufacturing units, the pharma industry employs more than one lakh people and accounts for 25% of Madhya Pradesh’s total exports. The presence of five commercial airports and six inland container depots further strengthens its industrial accessibility.
