CM Mohan Yadav stated that extraordinary progress has been made in the railway sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The contributions made by various companies in this field represent some of the finest examples of ‘Made in India.’ Today, multiple components of modern trains like the Metro and Vande Bharat are manufactured within the country. BEML will manufacture rolling stock and metro coaches in Madhya Pradesh. He added that the ties between Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh will grow stronger, and new avenues for mutual development will be explored. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav made these remarks during his visit to the BEML workshop in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
Taking another historic step towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), Chief Minister Dr. Yadav flagged off the 2100th metro coach manufactured at BEML Limited’s state-of-the-art rail coach manufacturing facility in Bengaluru and dedicated it to the nation. On this occasion, he handed over the land allotment letter for setting up BEML’s new rolling stock manufacturing unit in the Umariya region of Raisen district to the company’s Chairman and MD, Shri Shantanu Roy. Dr. Yadav said this is a moment of pride not just for Madhya Pradesh but for the entire nation. The launch of the 2100th metro coach manufactured by BEML symbolises India’s advanced manufacturing capabilities, engineering excellence, and the growing influence of indigenous technology.
The Chief Minister termed the establishment of BEML’s unit in Raisen as an unprecedented initiative. He said this will strengthen the industrial ecosystem of both the state and the nation, while also opening new opportunities for employment and enterprise for youth, MSMEs, and local communities. Setting up this metro and rail coach manufacturing unit in Raisen is a significant step toward inclusive and sustainable development in Madhya Pradesh.
Senior officials from the Government of Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC), and BEML were present. The state government has approved the allotment of 60.063 hectares of land for the proposed unit. This unit will manufacture rolling stock and metro coaches for major railway and urban transport projects, strengthening railway infrastructure across the state and other parts of the country.
Expressing his gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, BEML Chairman and MD Shri Shantanu Roy said that BEML will fully live up to the expectations placed on it. The expansion in Raisen will further energise and strengthen India’s urban rail infrastructure. The production of the 2100th metro coach is a testament to the continued trust of our partner institutions in BEML. This achievement reflects our commitment to innovation, indigenisation, and quality. It also reinforces our role in the country’s industrial advancement and job creation.
The 2100th metro coach by BEML has been manufactured for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) through the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). It includes driverless operation capabilities based on the Grade of Automation (GoA) standards. The coaches are equipped with unattended train operation (UTO) smart safety systems and multiple modern features that meet global standards.
A key highlight of this new coach is the “Onboard Condition Monitoring System,” implemented for the first time in an Indian metro train. This system includes five major modules: rail track condition monitoring, overhead equipment (OHE) status, pantograph-OHE contact, arc detection, and rail profile analysis.
These systems enable real-time predictive maintenance and remote diagnostics directly from the depot control centre. For passenger convenience, the coach also features ergonomic interiors, dynamic route maps, CCTV, digital fire detection, advanced air-conditioning systems, and a dedicated cycle stand.
