CM Mohan Yadav stated that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India has excelled in global sporting events such as the Olympics and the Asian Games. He highlighted that athletes from Madhya Pradesh and across the nation have achieved remarkable milestones on the international stage. Emphasizing the importance of sports, he noted that they play a crucial role in fostering leadership skills and enhancing the talents of young individuals. The state government remains dedicated to promoting skill development and sports among the youth. CM Mohan Yadav shared these insights while addressing the audience and athletes during the inauguration of the 42nd National Senior Rowing Championship on Monday. Accompanied by Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Shri Vishwas Kailash Sarang and other dignitaries, he inaugurated the championship by releasing balloons at the State Water Sports Academy, situated at the Boat Club in Bhopal.
Organized by the Madhya Pradesh Sports and Youth Welfare Department, the five-day championship will continue until March 7. Over 450 male and female athletes from 27 teams, including participants from 23 states, the Indian Army, Navy, and All India Police Services, are competing in 14 different events.
Extending his best wishes to the athletes, CM Mohan Yadav compared the prestigious rowing event in Bhopal to the Simhastha Kumbh in Ujjain, emphasizing how it enhances the scenic charm of Bhopal’s Upper Lake. He expressed confidence that the state’s progressive sports policies would greatly benefit young talent. He also highlighted that the Madhya Pradesh government has established 11 sports academies for 18 different sports, including three dedicated to water sports—kayaking, rowing, and sailing.
Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Shri Vishwas Sarang praised India’s outstanding sporting achievements over the past decade. He pointed out that Madhya Pradesh’s sports budget has significantly increased from ₹6 crore to ₹600 crore under CM Mohan Yadav sleadership. In the National Games, the state secured third place in the medal tally, winning a total of nine medals—five gold and four silver. Additionally, Madhya Pradesh ranked first overall in water sports and currently holds the title of National Champion in Rowing.
To further promote sports, the government is planning to establish a sports center in every assembly constituency of the state.

The inauguration featured a spectacular march-past by rowers and an exhilarating water sports demonstration, captivating the audience. Distinguished guests at the event included Additional Chief Secretary of Sports Shri Manu Srivastava, Sports Director Shri Ravi Gupta, Rowing Federation of India’s Chairman of Competition Shri Balaji Mardappa, along with several officials and athletes.
