The Haryana Sports Department will hold a state-level felicitation program on May 21 in Rohtak to honor athletes who secured gold, silver, and bronze medals in the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand. CM Nayab Singh Saini will attend the ceremony as the Chief Guest.
Providing further details, Minister of State for Sports, Sh. Gaurav Gautam, stated that Haryana athletes had an exceptional performance at the National Games, not only winning a significant number of medals but also winning the admiration of the country. He highlighted that the athletes made the state proud with their determination and sportsmanship.
The Minister informed that during the National Games held from January 28 to February 14 in Uttarakhand, Haryana athletes won a total of 153 medals—including 48 gold, 47 silver, and 58 bronze—securing third place in the overall medal tally. A total of 689 athletes and around 200 support staff represented Haryana at the event.
Sh. Gautam emphasized that Haryana’s athletes are making their mark at the global level as well, bringing home medals from the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games. He credited the state’s robust sports policy for enabling athletes to excel at national and international platforms.
The Minister also shared that CM Nayab Singh Saini has allocated ₹1,961.79 crore to the Sports Department for FY 2025–26, a significant increase from ₹1,381.79 crore in the previous year. The enhanced budget will be used to upgrade sports infrastructure, improve access to modern equipment, introduce an insurance scheme for athletes, and enhance youth training programs.
Additionally, new Centers of Excellence will be established at Maharshi Dayanand University, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Kurukshetra University, and Indira Gandhi University, Rewari. Two state-level sports complexes will also be run on a pilot basis under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to improve operations and maintenance. If successful, more complexes may adopt this model.
Sh. Gautam further announced that the number of sports nurseries in the state will be increased from 1,500 to 2,000 to support the early development of emerging sports talent in Haryana.
