CM Nayab Singh Saini : An IIT is set to be established to offer students top-tier, world-class technical education.
Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, has instructed officials to draft a proposal and submit it to the Central Government for the establishment of an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in the state. He assured that the state government is prepared to allocate the required land for this initiative.
Presiding over a meeting of the Higher Education Department, the Chief Minister highlighted that the proposed IIT aims to provide students with high-quality, world-class technical education, equipping them with essential skills for careers in engineering and technology.
The meeting was attended by Haryana Education Minister Sh. Mahipal Dhanda, Minister of State for Sports Sh. Gaurav Gautam, Chief Secretary Sh. Anurag Rastogi, and Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sh. Rajesh Khullar. Also present were Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of state universities, along with District Education Officers from various districts.
State Government Committed to Internationalizing Higher Education
The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to enhancing higher education by introducing world-class facilities in universities to attract more international students. He emphasized that the government has implemented various reforms to improve education quality, increasing trust in government institutions.
He urged Vice-Chancellors to focus not only on education but also on research, innovation, and skill development. To support this, he suggested allocating a dedicated fund and encouraged students to pursue entrepreneurship, pointing out that many young individuals are achieving financial success even with minimal investment.
Skill Development to Boost Employment Opportunities
Highlighting the need for skill development to improve youth employability, the Chief Minister stated that Haryana has become a preferred destination for industries, attracting both domestic and international companies. This industrial growth has led to a rising demand for skilled professionals.
To address this, the State Government established Shri Vishwakarma Skill University (SVSU) in Dudhola village, Palwal district, offering 43 technical courses in partnership with 200 industries. The university has achieved an 81% placement rate and is also working to revive local art forms such as the Banchari folk dance.
Teachers Encouraged to Guide Students on Career Paths
Emphasizing career counseling, the Chief Minister urged teachers to mentor students on available career options, helping them make informed choices and avoid misdirection. Additionally, he announced plans to establish e-libraries in all schools and colleges across the state in a phased manner.
Seeking Inputs for the State Budget
During the meeting, the Chief Minister invited suggestions from Vice-Chancellors for the upcoming State Budget, assuring that the best recommendations would be incorporated. He mentioned holding pre-budget consultations with various stakeholders and receiving around 10,000 suggestions via an online portal.
Among those present were Additional Chief Secretary (Higher Education) Sh. Vineet Garg, Deputy Principal Secretary to CM Sh. Yash Pal, Director of Secondary Education Sh. Jitender Kumar, OSD to CM Sh. Raj Nehru, and other senior officials.
