CM Nitish Kumar took a high level review of the relief and rescue operations being carried out in the flood affected areas through video conferencing at ‘Sankalp “at 1, Aney Marg and gave necessary directions to the officials. The Chief Minister also took stock of the updated status of water levels in the rivers of the state.
In the meeting, Development Commissioner cum Additional Chief Secretary, Disaster Management Department, Mr. Pratyaya Amrit apprised the Chief Minister of the updated status of relief and rescue operations in the flood affected areas and detailed information about the water level of the rivers. The 10 districts affected by heavy rainfall are Bhojpur, Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Khagaria, Bhagalpur and Katihar. The floods have affected 25 lakh people in 348 panchayats of 54 blocks of these 10 districts.
Seven teams of NDRF and nine teams of SDRF are engaged in relief and rescue operations. 60 motor boats and 1233 boats are in continuous operation. So far, 52,573 polythene sheets and 1800 dry ration packets have been distributed among the affected people.
All arrangements have been made as per the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the affected people in the flood relief camps. So far, more than 13 lakh people have been provided food at the community kitchen centres. Food and medicines were provided to the animals.
The Disaster Management Department is monitoring the situation by reviewing the relief and rescue operations on a daily basis. The District Magistrate has been directed to prepare a list for distribution of Gratuity Relief (GR) to the flood affected people. He said that the farmers of the state have been benefitted due to good rainfall in the state. So far, 93 per cent of paddy has been sown in the state.
Principal Secretary of Water Resources Department Santosh Kumar Mall, Principal Secretary of Agriculture Department Pankaj Kumar, Secretary of Road Construction Department Sandeep Kumar R Pudukalkatti and Secretary of Energy Department Manoj Kumar Singh gave information about the relief and rescue work related to their respective departments. Also, through video conferencing, the District Magistrate of Bhagalpur, Dr. Naval Kishore Chaudhary, the District Magistrate of Bhojpur, Shri Tanay Sultania and the District Magistrate of Patna, Dr. Tyagarajan S.M. gave detailed information about the relief and rescue operations being carried out in their respective districts.
During the review, CM Nitish said that keeping in view the rising water level in the areas along the rivers, the administration was fully alert. Also, help the affected people as soon as possible and with full sensitivity. Continue the relief and rescue work among the people in the flood-affected areas. “Ever since we came to power, we are always ready to help disaster victims. Preparations for pre-monsoon floods, No. Bau.370 13.08.2025, droughts and other calamities are reviewed and all are directed to act as per SOP.
The Chief Minister said that the Gratuity Relief Fund (GR) should be distributed among the flood affected people at the earliest. Compensation should be paid to the farmers for the crop loss. He said that the Road Construction Department and Rural Works Department should ensure the restoration work of the roads damaged by the floods so that the people do not face any problem in commuting.
