CM Nitish Kumar inaugurated the state level ‘Van Mahotsav-2025’ organized by the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change by planting a mango sapling at 1 Aney Marg premises. On this occasion, the Chief Minister has appealed to the people to make their significant contribution in this campaign by planting saplings in and around their premises.
It may be recalled that Van Mahotsav has been organized in the country every year since 1950 with the main objective of conserving forests, planting trees and making people aware of trees. A target of planting 5 crore saplings in the financial year 2025-26 has been set and full preparations have been made for this plantation drive. During this campaign, large scale plantation will be done across the state for the next 3 months from today. Under this, along with the Forest Department, plantation is being done by the Rural Development Department, Jeevika Group, Horticulture Department, various institutions, departments, NGOs and various social clubs.
With the vision of CM Nitish Kumar and with a view to increase the green cover, the “Hariyali Mission” was launched in the year 2012 and plantation work was taken up in mission mode across the State on a large scale, resulting in the green cover of the State being 15.05 per cent. The target is to increase the green cover to 17% by 2028. At the initiative of the Chief Minister, the “Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali” campaign was launched from the year 2019. Under this campaign, the aim is to increase the income of farmers through plantation, water conservation and environmental protection. At the same time, fruit-bearing plants are being provided free of cost to the people in Jeevika Didis and villages adjacent to the forest.
