CM Nitish Kumar inspected the site of Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur bridge under construction on Ganga river

CM Nitish Kumar today visited the construction site of Bakhtiyarpur (Karjan) to Tajpur (Samastipur) bridge over river Ganga and reviewed the progress of the project. He reached the bank of Ganga through Karjan in Athmalgola block and took stock of the construction activities and took detailed information from the officials.

Secretary, Road Construction Department, Shri Sandeep Pudukalkatti informed CM Nitish Kumar that this Greenfield bridge project is about 60% complete. The 5.5 -km-long bridge will connect NH-31 and NH-28, creating a new and direct link between north and south Bihar. Access road from Karjan to Ganga in Patna, railway overbridge and other infrastructural works are being completed at a rapid pace. At the same time, the 16.2 -kilometre long approach road from Tajpur to Chaklalshahi has also been completed.

CM Nitish Kumar directed the officials to speed up the work so that the construction of the bridge could be completed soon. He said that this bridge will be very useful for the people of North and South Bihar. This will reduce the traffic pressure on Gandhi Setu and Rajendra Setu and save travel time. At the same time, the bridge will also ease access to major religious, educational and health institutions.

CM Nitish Kumar assured that there would be no shortage of funds for the project. The bridge will be an alternative route for vehicles travelling to and from districts like Samastipur, Muzaffarpur and Begusarai.

The four-lane bridge and approach road project is being constructed by the Bihar State Road Development Corporation at a cost of Rs 2875.02 crore. The total length of the project is 51.26 km, including 5.51 km of bridges and 45.75 km of approach roads. The route will start from Karjan (NH-31) in Patna to Tajpur (NH-28) in Samastipur.
