CM Nitish Kumar today inaugurated the JP Ganga Path project from Digha to Didarganj by remotely unveiling the foundation stone. On the occasion, Additional Chief Secretary Road Construction Mr. Mihir Kumar Singh welcomed the Chief Minister and presented him a bouquet. After the inauguration, the Chief Minister inspected the site of the new road. The 20.5 -kilometre-long road will ease travel and ease commuting in various areas of Patna, saving time.
The ambitious project has been built on the southern bank of river Ganga at a cost of Rs 3831 crore in a phased manner. Its foundation stone was laid on the birth anniversary of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on 11 October 2013. Digha to PMCH (7.5 km) in Phase-I, PMCH to Gaighat (5km) in Phase-II and Gaighat to Kangan Ghat (3km) in Phase-III have been completed. This road has been connected to Atal Path, LCT Ghat, Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Krishna Ghat, etc., thereby providing better connectivity between the eastern and western parts of the city.
CM Nitish Kumar announced that the Ganga Path would be extended from Didarganj to Mokama in the east and Bihta, Koilwar in the west. The work in this regard is being carried out by the Road Construction Department.
Later, CM Nitish Kumar conducted an on-site inspection of the six-lane greenfield bridge over river Ganga and its approach road. He took stock of the progress of the road from Patna-Bakhtiyarpur four-lane bypass to Raghopur and directed to expedite the construction work. The Chief Minister made it clear that the project should be completed with quality within the stipulated time frame so that the people of North Bihar can get its benefit soon.
The total length of the project is 1 9.76 km with bridge length of 9.76 km and approach road length of 10 km at a cost of Rs. 4988.40 crore. This path will start from Kacchi Dargah in Patna and will go up to Kalyanpur (Chak Sikandar) in Vaishali. It is to be completed in three phases – first phase by April 2025, second by June 2025 and third by December 2025.
The construction of this bridge will provide an alternate road link between South and North Bihar, especially to the residents of Raghopur Diara, round the year.
Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma, UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh and BJP’s UP in-charge Radha Mohan Singh and other senior party leaders were also present on the occasion.
