CM Pushkar Dhami paid tributes to the martyred State Agitators and felicitated their family members on the occasion of 31st anniversary of Mussoorie firing.
The Chief Minister has said that the state government is working with determination to make Uttarakhand of the dreams of the agitators. At a function held at the Martyr’s Memorial in Mussoorie on Tuesday, the Chief Minister paid tributes to the agitators Balbir Singh Negi, Belmati Chauhan, Hansa Dhanai, Dhanpat Singh, Rai Singh Bangari and Madan Mohan Mamgai, who were martyred in Mussoorie during the Uttarakhand statehood movement. He said that the day of 2nd September 1994 will remain etched as a dark chapter in the history of the State. On this day, protesters protesting peacefully at the Birbhum of Mussoorie had to face police bullets. The incident was emblematic of the repressive attitude of the ruling parties of the time, who attempted to crush a peaceful movement mercilessly.
CM Pushkar Dhami said that the government has implemented 10 per cent horizontal reservation in government jobs for them and their dependents as a mark of its gratitude to the state agitators. Also, a monthly pension of Rs 3000 has been started for the families of the martyred agitators. The injured and jailed agitators are being given Rs 6000 and active agitators are being given Rs 4500 per month as pension. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that during the time of previous governments, there was a system of horizontal reservation for only one dependent of the state agitators, but now under the new law, the abandoned, widowed and divorced daughters of the identified agitators will also be able to get the benefit of this reservation. Not only this, the state government has issued identity cards to the identified state agitators and also engaged 93 agitators in government service.
Along with this, the children of the state agitators are being provided free education in schools and colleges and the agitators are also being provided free travel facility in government buses. The Chief Minister said the state government has also implemented 30 per cent horizontal reservation for women in government jobs. The Chief Minister said that it was the dream of the agitators to create a Uttarakhand where our culture, language and traditions are preserved. For this purpose, the state government has ensured equal rights and duties for all citizens in the state by implementing the “Uniform Civil Code.” At the same time, to provide equal opportunities of employment to the youth of the state with transparency, the most effective anti-copying law of the country was implemented and more than 100 copying mafias were sent to jail. After this, more than 25 thousand youth have been successful in getting government jobs in Uttarakhand. The Chief Minister said that the state government is working with full commitment to preserve the demography of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand.
For this, while a strict anti-conversion law has been implemented in the state, more than 9 thousand acres of government land has been freed from encroachment. Along with this, the state government has also worked to compensate the losses incurred in the riots by making a strict anti-riot law to teach the rioters a lesson. Recently, the government has decided to abolish the Madrasa Board in the state by enacting a new law. After the implementation of this law, after July 1, 2026, only those madrassas will be able to operate in Uttarakhand, in which the course prescribed by the government board will be taught. More than 250 madrassas operating illegally in the state have also been shut down.
The State Government is also taking strict action through ‘Operation Kalnemi “against the hypocrites who are defaming Sanatan culture in the State. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that construction of Garhwal Sabha Bhawan and Siffon Court would be resolved soon and assured to take immediate action on other demands including declaration of vendor zone in Mussoorie.
