Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami cancels controversial house number plate orders in Tehri and Uttarkashi after public outcry over outsourcing work to outsiders. Investigation ordered; local employment prioritized.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken decisive action by cancelling controversial orders issued by District Panchayati Raj Officers (DPROs) of Tehri Garhwal and Uttarkashi, which had assigned the task of installing house number plates in rural areas to an outsider. The decision came in response to widespread public outrage and criticism across social media platforms.
The controversy erupted when official letters from both districts went viral, revealing that the number plate installation—linked to the promotion of schemes like the Swachh Bharat Mission—was outsourced to an external individual rather than being offered to local workers. Citizens and local leaders voiced strong objections, questioning why government-sponsored work was being taken away from Uttarakhand residents.

Reiterating the state government’s policy, Dhami reminded administrative departments that contracts worth up to ₹10 crore must be given top priority to local vendors and workers. This mandate is part of the state’s broader commitment to boosting local employment and economic self-reliance.
The CM Pushkar Singh Dhami’s actions have been widely welcomed by citizens, who see it as a stand for accountability and grassroots development.
