CM Pushkar Singh Dhami paid a courtesy call on Jal Shakti Minister Shri C R Patil in New Delhi on Tuesday. During this time, a request has been made for the development and construction of 08 hydropower projects to give impetus to the social and economic development of Uttarakhand. The eight projects include seven with a total capacity of 647 MW and one with a capacity of 114 MW.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the Uttarakhand government is fully committed to the cleanliness, inviolability and environmental protection of Mother Ganga and all other rivers and is pursuing the goal of sustainable development by following the recommendations of experts. The Chief Minister said that the 114 MW Sela Urthing Hydroelectric Project is in Pithoragarh on Dhauliganga. It is not part of the Ganges basin within the boundaries of the state of Uttarakhand. There is no ban on projects on river basins other than Ganga and its tributaries in the state. Therefore, the Sela Urthing Hydro Power Project, which is not part of the Ganga basin, should be approved.  The Chief Minister requested the Union Minister to give necessary directions to the concerned authorities for the same. The Chief Minister also urged the Union Minister to sanction 7 hydel projects with a total capacity of 647 MW as per the recommendations of the Committee headed by Cabinet Secretary, Government of India and the request of the State Government.
