Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami says he will speak to Ankita Bhandari’s father and assures that the state government is ready for any investigation as the case resurfaces amid political tension.
Amid rising political tension in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday addressed the media and reaffirmed the state government’s stand on the Ankita Bhandari murder case. He said the government is fully prepared for any form of investigation and assured that no guilty person will be spared.
Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat Media House, CM Dhami said he would personally speak to Ankita Bhandari’s parents and take decisions based on their wishes. He described the murder of Ankita Bhandari as a “deeply sensitive and heartbreaking incident” that shook the entire state.
“The government stood firmly in this case from the beginning. Due to strong legal representation, all three accused were sentenced to life imprisonment. Justice was delivered, and we remain committed to truth and fairness,” the Chief Minister stated.
SIT Formed to Verify Viral Audio
The Chief Minister also addressed the controversy surrounding a recently surfaced viral audio clip linked to the case. He confirmed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to examine the authenticity of the audio.
“We are open to every possible investigation. If anyone is found guilty, they will not be allowed to escape. The SIT has been formed to verify the viral audio, and the government will take strict action based on facts,” Dhami said.
He added that the viral content has caused emotional distress to Ankita’s family, and the government is sensitive to their pain. “The most affected by these developments are Ankita’s parents. I will speak to them directly, and whatever they demand, the government will consider it seriously,” he added.
Case Heats Up Again After Three Years
Nearly three years after the high-profile murder case, the Ankita Bhandari matter has once again become a major political flashpoint in Uttarakhand. Protests have erupted across the state, with people demanding further investigation after alleged references to “VIP involvement” resurfaced.
Opposition parties and several social organisations are demanding a CBI probe, claiming that the truth has not been fully uncovered. Demonstrations have been reported in multiple districts, with slogans demanding justice for Ankita and transparency in the investigation.
Viral Videos Trigger Political Storm
The situation escalated after a series of viral videos posted by actress Urmila Sanawar. In her social media posts, she claimed to expose hidden layers of the Ankita Bhandari case and alleged the involvement of influential political figures.
Her videos, which include recorded phone conversations and photographs, have gone viral, triggering intense debate and backlash. The claims have caused visible discomfort within the Bharatiya Janata Party, with senior leaders responding strongly.
Public reaction on social media has been divided, with users questioning the claims while others demand deeper scrutiny of the allegations. The issue has dominated political discourse in the state over the past few days.
BJP Leaders Respond, FIR Filed
Earlier, BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt accused the Congress of politicising the case to destabilise the government. Following this, BJP national general secretary and Uttarakhand in-charge Dushyant Kumar Gautam addressed the media, expressing anguish over what he described as a deliberate attempt to tarnish reputations.

Dushyant Gautam has filed an FIR at Dalanwala police station against former MLA Suresh Rathore and Urmila Sanawar. The complaint accuses them of intentionally spreading misleading content on social media to defame party leaders and incite public unrest.
The FIR also names Congress, Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD), and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), alleging that they are orchestrating a conspiracy behind the viral campaign. The complainant has demanded swift legal action against those involved.
Government Reiterates Zero Tolerance
CM Dhami concluded by reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime and misinformation. “The law will take its course. No individual, no matter how influential, will be protected if found guilty,” he said.
As the political temperature continues to rise, all eyes are now on the SIT investigation and the government’s next steps in addressing public concerns surrounding the Ankita Bhandari case.
