CM Pushkar Singh Dhami was felicitated by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Mahamanch for implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand. On the 135th birth anniversary of the architect of the Constitution of India, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, thousands of people gathered in Haridwar to pay homage to the revered Chief Minister. Baba Saheb Samrasta Sthal will be built in Haridwar. Multipurpose buildings will be built in the name of social reformers of Dalit / Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes of Uttarakhand. The event was organised at the BHEL ground in Haridwar to mark the 135th birth anniversary of the architect of the Constitution, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. Expressing gratitude for the honour, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that it is evident from the large number of people who have expressed their confidence in this bold decision. He said that this honour was not just to an individual but to the ideology that has raised the voice of justice and equality in Indian society over the years. In his address, Chief Minister Dhami described Baba Saheb as an epoch maker. He said that Dr. Ambedkar believed that true equality in society is not possible unless every citizen of the country gets equal rights. It was this thought that inspired him to give place to a revolutionary concept like Uniform Civil Code in the Constitution. The Chief Minister clarified that the Uttarakhand government has not just enacted a law but has taken a big step towards social justice and equality.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the objective of the Uniform Civil Code is to eliminate discrimination, inequality and injustice due to different personal laws for the communities in the society. The Chief Minister said that Babasaheb always emphasized on the participation of women in the progress of society. He said that after the implementation of UCC in the state, a new era has begun in the field of women empowerment. “Through UCC, Muslim sisters and daughters of Uttarakhand have got freedom from evils like Iddat, polygamy, child marriage and triple talaq. Now no woman will face discrimination in the right to inheritance or property. The Chief Minister said that thoughts are visible in the policies and working style of Prime Minister Shri Modi. The Prime Minister has paid a true tribute to Baba Saheb by declaring his birth anniversary as a national holiday.
Major places associated with the memories of Babasaheb are being developed as Panch Tirthas of national consciousness by the government. He said that for the first time after independence, Prime Minister Modi has done the work of uplifting the Dalits and the deprived and integrating them into the mainstream of society with a true heart. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the government has increased the general budget for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes. Many important decisions have been taken to strengthen the economic, educational and social status. The Central Government has made the Dalit Harassment Act 1989 more stringent by amending it. In many schemes like Stand Up India Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Har Ghar Nal Se Jal, Ayushman Bharat, the overall development of the poor, downtrodden, tribals and Dalits is being ensured by giving priority to them. The Chief Minister said that the State Government is also fully committed to preserve the cultural values and demography of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. Strict action is being ensured against hateful mindsets playing with the state. “In recent times, some anti-social elements are trying to divide the society in the name of regionalism and casteism for their political interests. “There will be no threat to the unity, integrity and social harmony of Uttarakhand.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that under the guidance of the Prime Minister, the state government is also making every effort to make the scheduled society empowered, educated and self-reliant. The state government is running 15 hostels, 5 residential schools and 3 ITIs in the state for students of classes 1 to 12 on scholarship and free of cost. Free coaching for competitive exams is also being provided. The state government is providing an incentive of Rs 50,000 for inter-caste marriage of a youth or girl belonging to the Scheduled Castes in order to end caste discrimination and promote social harmony in the state.
