In a proactive move to tackle air pollution in Delhi, CM Rekha Gupta has encouraged hotel and restaurant owners to install mist spray systems on the rooftops of their establishments. This initiative aims to reduce pollution levels effectively while also decreasing water consumption in the city.
A New Approach to Reducing Pollution
During the inauguration of the ‘Viksit Delhi – Viksit Tourism & Hospitality’ summit, CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that adopting modern technologies like mist fogging can help hotels and restaurants play a crucial role in improving Delhi’s air quality. She assured that the government would offer full support to businesses that implement such eco-friendly measures.
The summit, which was organized by various hotel and restaurant associations, provided a platform to discuss sustainable practices within the hospitality industry.
Government’s Push for Private Sector Participation
CM Rekha Gupta stated that the Delhi government is committed to fighting rising pollution levels and that private sector involvement is key to the city’s environmental efforts. The mist spray system, already in use in certain parts of Delhi, will soon be expanded across the city to assist in improving air quality. She highlighted that these systems are efficient, cost-effective, and have less water wastage compared to traditional methods like anti-smog guns.

Benefits of Mist Spray Systems
The CM pointed out that unlike the anti-smog guns required by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) for high-rise buildings, mist spray systems are more efficient, consume less water, and are easier to install. Additionally, these systems are environmentally friendly as the water used is beneficial for plants and trees.
Gupta explained that while anti-smog guns are heavy and costly, mist spray systems operate in all directions, ensuring more uniform coverage. As a result, they are expected to significantly improve air quality, especially in high-rise areas where pollution levels are typically higher.
Support for Hotels and Restaurants
The Chief Minister mentioned that the Delhi government plans to amend DPCC regulations to ease the financial burden on building owners and encourage them to adopt these pollution-control technologies. She reiterated that the government is determined to create a clean and green Delhi for both residents and tourists.
A Vision for Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality
CM Gupta also unveiled her vision for Delhi as an international hub for tourism and hospitality, emphasizing the city’s unique combination of cultural heritage, history, modernity, and culinary diversity. She expressed her belief that Delhi can become one of the world’s premier tourist destinations, with a focus on sustainability and environmental protection.
Industry’s Support for the Initiative
The hotel and restaurant sector welcomed the Chief Minister’s call for action, expressing their commitment to the city’s environmental goals. Hotel associations pledged to introduce the mist fogging technology in a phased manner across their establishments, aligning their efforts with the government’s push for a pollution-free Delhi.
