Delhi CM Rekha Gupta shares her life struggles, empowering women to pursue education, leadership, and challenge societal norms.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta addressed the National Women Intellectuals Conference, “Bharti Nari Se Narayani,” on Saturday at Vigyan Bhawan. Speaking to the audience, she highlighted the contributions, courage, and sacrifices of women and shared her personal journey from a modest family to the Chief Minister’s chair.
CM Gupta encouraged women to remain determined, pursue education, and actively contribute to society. She said, “Today, I stand as the Chief Minister of the national capital, but my journey has been long and challenging. Coming from a small family with four sisters and rooted in the Vaishya community, my path required dedication, courage, and resilience.”
From College Days to Leadership Roles
The Chief Minister shared anecdotes from her college life, emphasizing how her father supported her admission to a girls’ college. She narrated, “When I reached the university with my friends, we had the choice between Miranda College and Daulat Ram College. We chose Daulat Ram College, which became the foundation for my social involvement.”
During her studies, CM Gupta realized the importance of addressing student issues. She joined the student council and gradually became active in university elections, eventually representing Delhi University and engaging in wider social work.

Challenging Traditional Norms
CM Gupta spoke about overcoming societal expectations that limited girls’ roles to marriage and family. “In my family, my mother would say some opportunities were not meant for girls. But I challenged this thinking and established my identity in society,” she said.
She further emphasized national programs like “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” as pivotal in changing perceptions, encouraging education for girls, and recognizing their contributions to society.
Message for Women
The Chief Minister urged women to be aware of their rights, bring change in society, and create their own identity. She stressed that with hard work, courage, and determination, any girl can achieve great accomplishments in life.
