CM Shri Sai today visited the residence of the first woman MLA of Raipur and social worker Late Smt. Rajni Tai Upasane at Police Lines, Raipur and paid homage to her.
CM Shri Sai recalled the contributions of and consoled the bereaved family members. Former Rajya Sabha MPs Shri Kailash Soni, Shri Santosh Sharma, Shri Jagdish Upasane and family members were present on the occasion.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that Rajani Tai’s demise is an irreparable loss to the entire society. The courage and fortitude he displayed during the difficult times of Emergency is inspiring. During his tenure, he gave top priority to the interests of the people and development of Raipur. He was distinguished for his simplicity, honesty and deep connection with the society. She was constantly active for the rights of women and deprived classes. He prayed to God to rest the deceased soul in peace.
It may be recalled that Raipur’s first woman MLA and social worker Smt. Rajni Tai Upasane passed away recently at the age of 92. In 1977, she won the election from the Janata Party and created history by becoming the first woman MLA of Raipur. At a time when women’s participation in politics was limited, winning the trust of the people was a symbol of their courage and struggle.
