CM Vishnu Deo Sai highlights glorious history of Mahra Samaj, recalls contributions of Jagtu Mahra and Dharmu Mahra
CM Vishnu Deo Sai today inaugurated the newly constructed community hall of the Mahra Samaj at Guru Govind Singh Ward in Jagdalpur. The hall has been built at a cost of ₹1.63 crore.
On this occasion, CM Vishnu Deo Sai was accorded a grand welcome with traditional Mohri Baja. Members of the Mahra Samaj enthusiastically honored him by adorning him with the traditional Mahra Pata. Chief Minister Shri Sai cut the ribbon to formally inaugurate the hall and expressed gratitude to the community for the invitation and the warm welcome on this historic occasion.
In his address, CM Vishnu Deo Sai recalled the glorious history of the Mahra Samaj. He said that Jagdalpur was founded by Jagtu Mahra, while Dharmupura was established by Dharmu Mahra. He particularly highlighted the active role of the community in movements like Bhumkal and its resistance against the oppressive policies of the British.

CM Vishnu Deo Sai said that it was due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah that the Mahra Samaj was granted Scheduled Caste status. This historic decision, he said, will open up greater opportunities for the youth of the community in education and employment, ensuring a brighter future.
Highlighting various welfare initiatives, CM Vishnu Deo Saii said that PM Modi’s primary goal is the welfare of the poor and the economic development of farmers. He informed that so far, 18 lakh houses have been approved in the state. Farmers are being procured 21 quintals of paddy per acre, with a payment of ₹3,100 per quintal.
Emphasizing employment for youth, CM Vishnu Deo Sai said that a new industrial policy has been formulated in the state to create more jobs and promote self-employment. He added that the government is working rapidly for the complete eradication of Naxalism, so that development works like road construction, electricity supply, and installation of mobile towers in affected regions can proceed smoothly. He said that along with basic amenities such as housing and ration supplies, welfare schemes are also being delivered to the people. “In this direction, the Niyad Nellanar Yojana is proving to be a long-term solution,” he remarked.
At the event, Mahra Samaj divisional president Raju Baghel delivered the welcome address, Shanti Nag presented the community’s report, and community patron Bicchem Pondi proposed the vote of thanks.
The occasion was also marked by addresses from Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap, Bastar MP Mahesh Kashyap, and Jagdalpur MLA Kiran Singh Deo.
The programme was attended by Chitrakot MLA Vinayak Goyal, Dantewada MLA Chaitram Atami, Chhattisgarh Beverages Corporation Chairman Srinivas Rao Maddi, Jagdalpur Mayor Sanjay Pandey, former MP Dinesh Kashyap, former MLA Mahesh Gagda, Lachhuram Kashyap, Baiduram Kashyap, Subhau Kashyap, Collector Haris S, Superintendent of Police Shalabh Sinha, along with a large number of public representatives, senior office-bearers and members of the Mahra Samaj.
