CM Vishnu Deo Sai : Pilot Project Initiated Under NDDB’s Guidance to Develop Chhattisgarh as a Dairy Hub
CM Vishnu Deo Sai reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to positioning Chhattisgarh as a key player in dairy production by enhancing farmers’ income, improving rural infrastructure, and achieving self-sufficiency in milk production. Recognizing dairy farming as a major driver of economic growth, he stressed ongoing efforts to transform it into a profitable and sustainable industry.
During a high-level review meeting of the Animal Husbandry Department at Mahanadi Bhavan, CM Vishnu Deo Sai highlighted a strategic pilot project being implemented in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). This initiative, based on an MoU signed between the Chhattisgarh Government and NDDB in December 2024, aims to accelerate dairy development across the state.
With a significant portion of Chhattisgarh’s population dependent on agriculture, dairy farming serves as a vital secondary income source. To support the pilot project’s smooth execution, the state government has allocated an initial investment of ₹5 crore. Initially covering six districts, the project will gradually expand to establish Chhattisgarh as a major dairy hub.
Dairy Expansion to Boost Rural Economy and Nutrition
CM Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that strengthening the dairy sector will create employment opportunities, enhance rural incomes, and improve nutritional standards, particularly for women and children. He directed officials to implement measures that increase per capita milk availability and efficiently utilize surplus milk. Additionally, he stressed the importance of awareness campaigns to educate farmers on modern dairy technologies, scientific breeding methods, and efficient farm management practices.
NDDB’s Roadmap for Dairy Growth
NDDB Chairman Shri Meenesh Shah outlined a strategic roadmap to tap into Chhattisgarh’s dairy potential, which currently produces around 5.8 million kilograms of milk daily. Key components of the plan include:
- Strengthening cooperative dairy societies with modern processing and marketing infrastructure.
- Enhancing milk quality testing facilities to maintain high standards.
- Implementing a digital payment system for timely transactions with farmers.
- Promoting biogas and bio-fertilizer initiatives for additional income and sustainability.
Commitment to Self-Sufficiency and Dairy Innovation
CM Vishnu Deo Sai reiterated that the successful execution of this initiative will make Chhattisgarh self-sufficient in dairy production. He urged officials to focus on improving livestock productivity, advancing breeding programs, and enhancing animal nutrition policies.
Vision for a Dairy Powerhouse
Reaffirming his vision, CM Vishnu Deo Sai stated, “We are committed to revolutionizing the dairy sector with modern technology, robust infrastructure, and scientific practices. By increasing milk production, supporting farmers, and fostering sustainable dairy practices, Chhattisgarh will emerge as a leader in India’s dairy industry.”
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to the CM Shri Subodh Singh, Agricultural Production Commissioner Smt. Shahla Nigar, Director of Animal Husbandry Shri R. Ekka, and senior officials from NDDB and the state government.
