CM Yogi targets Congress and INDIA bloc over anti-SIR protests and EVM criticism during BJP’s Gorakhpur march.
anti-SIR protest: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a strong attack on the Congress and the INDIA bloc during the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ march in Gorakhpur on Wednesday. He accused opposition parties of questioning constitutional institutions and creating unnecessary controversy over electoral processes.
Addressing party workers and participants during the padyatra, CM Yogi criticised the opposition’s protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He also alleged that opposition parties repeatedly question the credibility of electronic voting machines (EVMs) whenever they face electoral defeats.
“If they lose, they blame EVMs. This has become a recurring pattern for them,” Yogi Adityanath said while targeting the Congress and its INDIA alliance partners.
The Chief Minister’s remarks came amid political disagreements over the Election Commission’s ongoing electoral roll revision exercise. The CM Yogi anti-SIR protest remarks became a key highlight of the BJP’s Gorakhpur campaign.
Yogi Adityanath Defends Election Commission’s SIR Exercise
During his address, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister defended the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and argued that such exercises were not new in India.
He pointed out that electoral roll revisions had been conducted periodically in the past, including during earlier Congress governments. According to him, the opposition’s objections to the current exercise were politically motivated.
Yogi Adityanath claimed that the SIR process was intended to remove the names of ineligible individuals, including alleged illegal infiltrators and deceased persons, from voter lists. He accused the INDIA bloc of creating controversy over the exercise and demanded an apology from opposition parties.
The CM Yogi anti-SIR protest remarks also focused on what he described as attempts to weaken public confidence in constitutional institutions.

Opposition Accused of Undermining Constitutional Institutions
The Chief Minister further targeted the Congress and Samajwadi Party, alleging that their political approach was damaging the credibility of democratic institutions.
He said that constitutional bodies play an important role in protecting India’s democratic system and that attempts to question their legitimacy should not be accepted.
According to Yogi Adityanath, political parties should strengthen democratic processes rather than create doubts about institutions responsible for conducting elections.
His comments formed a central part of the BJP’s message during the ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ campaign in Gorakhpur.
AK Sharma Calls Padyatra the Voice of Common People
Uttar Pradesh Minister AK Sharma also addressed the campaign and described the padyatra as a public movement against activities that, according to him, encourage disorder.
He said the march was not simply a political foot march but represented the concerns and voices of ordinary citizens. Sharma added that forces spreading anarchy would be defeated through public participation.
His remarks were in line with the BJP’s stated objective of taking its campaign against opposition protests to the grassroots level.
Pankaj Chaudhary Accuses Opposition of Misleading People
Uttar Pradesh BJP President Pankaj Chaudhary also criticised opposition parties over their objections to electoral processes.
He alleged that whenever opposition parties lose elections, they blame EVMs or question the Election Commission instead of accepting the results.
Chaudhary said peaceful protests are a democratic right, but accused some opposition leaders of misleading young people and encouraging activities that could disturb public order.
He also referred to demonstrations in Delhi and alleged that certain political leaders had used them to raise demands for regime change.
The BJP state president maintained that India’s democratic institutions are strong and that political disagreements should not be allowed to create instability.
BJP National President Nitin Nabin Visits Gorakhpur
Meanwhile, BJP National President Nitin Nabin is on an organisational visit to Gorakhpur on November 4 and 5. His visit includes participation in the party’s ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ campaign and meetings with senior leaders, office-bearers and public representatives.
After the padyatra, Nabin is scheduled to reach Annexe Bhawan in Taramandal, where he will interact with members of the intellectual community, referred to as the Prabuddh Varg.
The visit is part of the BJP’s organisational activities ahead of upcoming elections. The CM Yogi anti-SIR protest remarks and statements by other party leaders have brought the debate over electoral roll revision and the role of constitutional institutions into the spotlight.
