Delhi CM Atishi says Purvanchalis don't need to travel outside the city to celebrate

Delhi CM Atishi stated that Purvanchali residents did not had to travel outside the city to celebrate Chhath Pooja because of the work done by the AAP-led Delhi Government. “There would be no Purvanchali in Delhi who needs to travel.

“No Purvanchali in Delhi will have to travel more than 1-2 kilometers to celebrate Chhath Mahaparv,” Atishi further said.

With more than 1000 Chhath ghats, Purvanchali locals can now celebrate the festival in Delhi, when there were just 60 ghats set aside for it before 2014.

Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal commended the Delhi Government for constructing 1,000 Ghats for the ceremonies in a post on X. “The Delhi government has built over 1000 magnificent Chhath Ghats so all devotees can worship near their homes as Chhath Mahaparva begins with ‘Nahay Khaye’ today,” he wrote.

The Sandhya Arghya (evening offering) day, November 7, has been designated a public holiday in Delhi by the government this year.

A number of departments have been called upon to assist; the Delhi Jal Board is in charge of water arrangements, while the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department are preparing artificial ghats.

The Revenue Department is in charge of tents, lighting, and sound, while the Health Department has placed physicians and nurses at key ghats. To add to the celebrations, the Maithili-Bhojpuri Academy is hosting cultural events at larger ghats.
