Delhi CM Rekha Gupta launches ₹2,100 crore water and sewer projects to improve water supply, sewage treatment, and pipeline networks, benefiting millions of residents with cleaner water and modern infrastructure.
In a major development for the residents of the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated water and sewer projects worth over ₹2,100 crore. These initiatives aim to strengthen water supply, enhance sewage treatment capacity, and upgrade pipeline networks across the city, benefiting millions of citizens with cleaner water and improved sanitation facilities.
The grand launch took place at Ramleela Ground, Todapur, West Delhi, where CM Gupta emphasized that her administration focuses on timely implementation rather than mere announcements. “Efficient water management is crucial for achieving the goal of a developed Delhi,” she said. CM Gupta also instructed officials to complete all projects within deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards so that citizens experience immediate benefits.
Projects to Provide Better Water Supply and Sanitation
The Delhi government’s ambitious projects aim to ensure safe drinking water and modern sewer systems for all areas. According to CM Gupta, neighborhoods that faced chronic water and sewage issues will now receive permanent solutions. The upgraded systems will also prevent untreated wastewater from entering the Yamuna river, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.
Delhi’s Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh remarked, “These initiatives mark a new phase of development in Delhi. This is not just about projects; it is a step toward a stronger, sustainable, and modern urban infrastructure.” The government is working to modernize basic services according to citizen needs, ensuring regular and adequate water supply in every household.

Expanded Amnesty Scheme for Delhi Water Consumers
The CM also announced the expansion of the Amnesty Scheme for water consumers to include commercial and non-domestic users until August 2026. Over 3.52 lakh consumers have already benefited from the scheme, receiving relief worth ₹1,400 crore in penalties, interest, and surcharges. With this extension, commercial users will get 100% waiver on late payment surcharges, resulting in additional revenue of approximately ₹285.2 crore for the Delhi Jal Board.
Key Projects Launched
Nilothi-1 STP: Capacity increased from 40 MGD to 60 MGD. Cost: ₹373.21 crore.
Pappankalan Phase-1 STP: Capacity increased from 20 MGD to 30 MGD. Cost: ₹225.28 crore.
Pipeline Upgrades: Replacement of old pipelines in North West Delhi and Pitampura, costing ₹70.16 crore.
New Projects for Enhanced Water Supply
Chandrawal WTP Packages 3 & 4: Total investment ₹1,258.41 crore for water treatment upgrades.
House-to-House Sewer Connections: Begumpur, Wazirabad, and Ranhola regions receiving modern sewer networks. Cost: ₹108.21 crore.
Capacity Upgrades: Molarband STP increased by 0.67 MGD at a cost of ₹14.71 crore.
These projects are expected to address long-standing water and sewer issues in Delhi, providing residents with uninterrupted clean water and a modern, efficient sewer system. CM Gupta’s initiative is being hailed as a significant step toward a Swachh and developed Delhi, aligning with the government’s broader vision of urban modernization and citizen-focused infrastructure.
