Delhi CM Rekha Gupta addresses waterlogging and pollution as ‘legacy issues’ from previous governments. Read how her government is tackling these challenges while improving Delhi’s air quality.
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta addressed the ongoing challenges of waterlogging and pollution, describing them as “legacy problems” inherited from previous governments. While inspecting the desilting work at Sunehri Nala, Gupta criticized both the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) governments for neglecting critical drainage and pollution issues.
“The Sunehri Nala was constructed, but there was no proper access for workers to maintain or clean it. We are actively desilting drains and addressing issues such as waterlogging, silt buildup, and pollution. Unfortunately, these are legacy issues left unresolved by previous administrations. We are working hard to resolve them,” Gupta said in a statement. She also mentioned the installation of mist sprayers to improve air quality, although she acknowledged that it would take time for the results to become apparent.

CM Rekha Gupta directed sharp criticism at the Congress and AAP for their time in power, stating that while they ruled for 15 and 10 years respectively, they failed to take meaningful action to improve Delhi’s drainage and environmental conditions. “Instead of solving problems, they only caused further hardship for the people of Delhi. Our government is now focused on fixing these issues and improving the lives of Delhiites,” Gupta added.
The CM Rekha Gupta was accompanied by Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Verma during the inspection. Her comments came a day after she was met with chants of “AQI, AQI” as she greeted global football icon Lionel Messi at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi.
On the same day, Delhi’s air quality showed signs of improvement, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) dropping to 377 from 498 the previous day. However, smog continued to blanket the city, with temperatures dropping to a chilly 8.3 degrees Celsius in the morning, reducing visibility.
