Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra on Friday addressed a viral video showing a couple claiming they were denied entry to a Pitampura restaurant on August 3 for wearing Indian attire. The video, now widely shared on social media, prompted CM Gupta to order an investigation and necessary action.
Sharing the clip on X, Mishra called the act unacceptable, stating, “A video has surfaced showing a ban on Indian attire at a restaurant in Pitampura. CM @gupta_rekhaji has taken serious note of the incident. Officials have been directed to investigate and take immediate action.”

Couple narrates incident
In the video, the man recounts how he and his wife were refused entry because they wore Indian clothes, while others in revealing outfits were allowed inside. He further alleged that the restaurant manager misbehaved with them and insulted both women and Indian culture. Another individual filming the video asserted that any restaurant rejecting Indian attire should be shut down.
Public reaction
The incident sparked heated debate online, with some demanding the restaurant’s closure and others defending its right to set entry rules. “Why not shut down this restaurant? Those who cannot tolerate Indianness have no place in India,” one user wrote. Another countered, “It’s a private establishment with the right to make its own rules. Entry is a privilege, not a right.”
Not the first case
A similar controversy emerged in 2020 when a woman alleged she was denied entry into a South Delhi mall for wearing traditional ethnic wear. The mall later issued an apology following social media outrage.
