Delhi Electric Buses: Delhi Government will add 200 new electric buses, launch a Delhi-Karnal interstate service and introduce 56 dedicated Ladies Special e-bus services.
Delhi Electric Buses: The Delhi Government is set to strengthen the capital’s public transport network with the addition of 200 new zero-emission electric buses. Along with the new buses, the government will introduce an interstate electric bus service connecting Delhi with Karnal, roll out 56 dedicated Ladies Special electric bus services and open a high-capacity public EV charging facility at the DTC Rajghat Depot-I.
The Delhi electric buses initiative is aimed at expanding clean public transport, improving connectivity and supporting the city’s shift towards sustainable mobility.
Delhi’s Electric Bus Fleet to Reach 4,938
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the induction of 200 new electric buses will take Delhi’s electric bus fleet to 4,938. The overall city bus fleet is expected to reach around 6,800, including approximately 1,750 CNG buses.
The latest addition consists of:
88 electric buses measuring 12 metres
112 DEVI electric buses measuring 9 metres
Low-floor and air-conditioned interiors
CCTV surveillance systems
Emergency panic buttons
Real-time vehicle tracking
Accessibility features for passengers with disabilities
The Transport Department and DTC are also working on a long-term fleet expansion programme. Under the plan, Delhi’s total bus fleet is projected to reach nearly 14,000 buses by the financial year 2028-29.
Delhi-Karnal Interstate Electric Bus Service
The Delhi electric buses expansion will also improve interstate connectivity. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will begin a fully electric bus service between Delhi and Karnal.
Initially, five air-conditioned electric buses will operate on the route. The service will provide 10 trips in each direction every day along the approximately 133-kilometre one-way corridor.
The route will begin at Maharana Pratap ISBT, Kashmiri Gate, and connect several locations, including:
- Singhu Border
- Rai
- Bhalgarh
- Murthal
- Ganaur
- Samalkha
- Panipat
- Gharaunda
- Madhuban
- Karnal
The new route will complement DTC’s existing interstate electric bus services to destinations such as Baraut, Sonipat, Dharuhera, Panipat and Rohtak.

56 Ladies Special Electric Bus Services
The Delhi electric buses programme will also focus on improving public transport options for women. DTC plans to introduce 56 dedicated women-only electric bus services.
The services will include 30 Ladies Special trips across 15 high-demand routes and 26 University Ladies Special trips covering 13 routes.
These buses will connect residential neighbourhoods with major employment, commercial, educational and government centres. Key destinations include Nehru Place, AIIMS, South Extension, RK Puram, Connaught Place, ITO, Delhi Secretariat, Karol Bagh, Kashmiri Gate and Shivaji Stadium.
University Routes to Connect Major Colleges
The Delhi electric buses initiative will provide dedicated connectivity for students through University Ladies Special services.
The proposed routes will serve several prominent educational institutions, including Hindu College, Ramjas College, Daulat Ram College, Sri Ram College, Lady Shri Ram College, Gargi College, ARSD, Hansraj College, SPM College, Deshbandhu College and SGGSCC.
All these services are proposed to use fully electric DEVI buses. Special stickers will be placed on the buses to make them easily identifiable at terminals and bus stops.
New EV Charging Station at Rajghat Depot
Alongside expanding the Delhi electric buses fleet, the government is also developing the charging infrastructure required to support electric mobility.
DTC has established a high-capacity public EV charging station at Rajghat Depot-I. The facility has four chargers, each with a capacity of 240 kW, allowing it to support both heavy commercial electric vehicles and electric cars.
The charging facility also includes a 1,600 KVA compact substation, transformers, high-tension and low-tension panels and other supporting electrical infrastructure.
The project has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 5.5 crore. Additional high-capacity EV charging stations are also being constructed at other DTC locations.
Focus on Cleaner and Larger Public Transport Network
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the latest measures are part of Delhi’s broader effort to create a modern public transport system that combines cleaner mobility with improved passenger services.
The government plans to continue expanding electric mobility, increasing public transport capacity and developing charging infrastructure across Delhi.
With 200 new buses, a new Delhi-Karnal interstate route, dedicated women-only services and additional EV charging capacity, the Delhi electric buses programme is expected to play an important role in the capital’s transition towards a cleaner and more accessible public transport network.
