Karan Johar Follows Bachchan-Rai Lead on Personality Rights Protection
karan Johar’s move follows similar orders by the high court in favor of actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, who had earlier been granted protection against unauthorized commercial exploitation of their names and images.
In the case of Abhishek Bachchan, the court noted that several websites and online platforms were misusing his name, image, and signature for commercial gain, often employing technological tools like artificial intelligence without consent.
Justice Tejas Karia, in his September 10 order, highlighted that these attributes are closely linked to Bachchan’s professional work and career associations. The unauthorized use of such attributes, the court noted, dilutes the goodwill and reputation associated with him. The court also observed that Bachchan had made a strong prima facie case for the grant of an ex-parte injunction, and the balance of convenience favored him.
