DELHI NEWS : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated two major national highway projects worth ₹11,000 crore in Rohini, Delhi — the Delhi stretch of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Both projects are aimed at strengthening connectivity and easing traffic pressure across the National Capital Region (NCR).
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), these initiatives are designed to decongest Delhi by enhancing connectivity, saving travel time, and reducing vehicular load in the city and nearby areas. The PMO further said they embody PM Modi’s vision of building world-class infrastructure that improves ease of living and ensures smooth mobility.
Dwarka Expressway (Delhi Section)
Built at a cost of ₹5,360 crore, the Delhi portion of the Dwarka Expressway links Yashobhoomi, the DMRC Blue and Orange Metro lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster Bus Depot.
While the Haryana section (19 km) was inaugurated by PM Modi in March last year, the newly opened Delhi section stretches 10.1 km. It includes Package I (5.9 km, from Shiv Murti intersection to Dwarka Sector-21 Road Under Bridge) and Package II (4.2 km, from Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi-Haryana border). Package II will also connect directly to UER-II.
Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II)
The Alipur to Dichaon Kalan section of UER-II, developed at a cost of ₹5,580 crore, has also been inaugurated. This road is expected to ease congestion on Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Roads, as well as critical junctions like Dhaula Kuan, Mukarba Chowk, and NH-9.
As per the PMO, UER-II will also improve links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, enhance industrial connectivity, decongest city routes, and accelerate goods movement within NCR.
