Delhi extends the pink ticket facility for women until October 10. The Pink Saheli Smart Card will become mandatory for free bus travel after the deadline.
Women travelling on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses can continue to use pink tickets for free travel until October 10. The deadline has been extended to give women more time to obtain the Pink Saheli Smart Card, which will become mandatory for free bus travel after the revised deadline.
Under the latest arrangement, eligible women who do not have a Pink Saheli Smart Card can still avail themselves of free travel by obtaining a pink ticket from the bus conductor.
Pink Ticket Facility Extended Until October 10
The decision comes after several women passengers faced difficulties when the smart card was made mandatory from October 1. Many women without a card reportedly had to purchase regular tickets while travelling on DTC and cluster buses.
Following complaints from passengers, instructions were issued later that day to resume issuing pink tickets to eligible women who did not have the Pink Saheli Smart Card.
The temporary arrangement will now remain in place until October 10.

Women Without Smart Cards Will Not Be Denied Free Travel
Until October 10, eligible women will not be denied free bus travel solely because they do not possess a Pink Saheli Smart Card.
Conductors will first ask women passengers whether they have the smart card. If the card is unavailable, a pink ticket will be issued so that the passenger can continue to travel without paying the regular fare.
Smart Card Will Be Mandatory From October 11
After October 10, the free travel system will shift completely to the smart-card system. Women passengers will need to carry a valid Pink Saheli Smart Card and tap it when boarding the bus.
Those travelling without a valid card after the deadline will not be eligible for free travel and will have to pay the applicable bus fare.
DTC Launches Awareness Drive
The DTC has directed depot managers, regional officials, conductors and enforcement staff to communicate the revised timeline to passengers.
Announcements will also be made at buses and depots to ensure women are aware of the change. Conductors have been instructed to provide passengers with information about the smart-card system and maintain courteous behaviour while assisting them.
Women Advised to Get Cards Before the Deadline
DTC has urged eligible women not to wait until the last date to obtain their Pink Saheli Smart Card. Passengers are advised to collect the card from the designated distribution centres before October 10.
With the temporary pink-ticket facility ending after the deadline, having a valid card will be essential for women who want to continue using free bus travel on DTC and cluster services.
