Delhi Police: A man from Gujarat assaulted CM Gupta during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ session at her camp office in Delhi’s Civil Lines. Her office termed the incident a “pre-planned conspiracy to eliminate her.”
The Centre has revoked the Z-category security cover given by the CRPF to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, transferring her protection back to the Delhi Police. She had been provided CRPF security following the recent attack on her during a public meeting.
A day after the assault, the Union Home Ministry instructed the CRPF’s VIP security wing to extend Z-category protection to the Chief Minister. However, the formal deployment order was later withheld, and the decision was reversed, leading to the withdrawal of CRPF cover.
The Delhi Police has now taken over complete responsibility for CM Rekha Gupta’s security and has been directed to strengthen her protection by deploying additional personnel.
Attack on Delhi CM
On the morning of August 20, a man from Gujarat launched an attack on CM Gupta during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ programme at her camp office in Delhi’s Civil Lines. Her office described the incident as a “pre-planned conspiracy to eliminate her.”
“Such attacks can never break my spirit,” says CM Gupta
Responding to the incident, CM Gupta said attempts like these could never weaken her determination to serve the people of Delhi. She affirmed that her public interactions would continue as scheduled.
“The attack on me during today’s public hearing was not just directed at me, but was a cowardly assault on our commitment to serve Delhi and work for people’s welfare. Initially, I was shaken, but I am now recovering. I urge my well-wishers not to worry or trouble themselves by visiting me. Very soon, I will be back among you with renewed energy and stronger resolve. Public hearings and problem-solving will go on with the same dedication and seriousness. Your faith and support are my greatest strength. I am deeply grateful for your love, blessings, and best wishes,” she shared on X.
Two arrested so far
Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the attack, including the main accused, 41-year-old Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimji, an auto-rickshaw driver from Rajkot. The investigation remains ongoing.
