Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announces grand preparations for Chhath Puja 2025, including 17 modern ghats on Yamuna, 1000+ Puja sites, cultural programs, and special arrangements for devotees.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that this year’s Chhath Puja celebrations in the city will be as grand and divine as the recently celebrated Diwali festival. In a detailed press conference, she outlined the extensive preparations underway to ensure a safe, vibrant, and culturally rich Chhath festival for the city’s residents, especially the large community from Bihar and Eastern Uttar Pradesh who hold this festival in high reverence.
The Chief Minister revealed that the government is set to construct 17 modern ghats along the banks of the Yamuna River—from Palla to Kalindi—to facilitate the worship rituals with all necessary amenities. Additionally, over 1,000 locations across Delhi have applied for hosting Chhath Puja events, marking a significant increase from the previous year’s 929 sites.

Rekha Gupta emphasized that the state government is committed to providing comprehensive support for all these locations. This includes arrangements for tents, electricity, sanitation, and clean toilets, ensuring devotees can perform rituals comfortably and safely. Each district will have at least one modern Chhath ghat, equipped to handle large gatherings.
To add to the festive spirit, the government plans to organize over 200 cultural programs featuring traditional Maithili and Bhojpuri music and dance, celebrating the rich heritage of the festival. Special arrangements such as flower showers and warm welcome gates will be installed at various Puja sites, enhancing the grandeur of the occasion.
Further underlining the government’s commitment to devotees, water and tea will be provided free of cost at all major Chhath Puja venues. CM Rekha Gupta assured that these initiatives aim to not only support religious sentiments but also foster community unity and cultural pride across the city.
This large-scale effort marks the first time such an extensive network of modern Chhath Puja venues and cultural events will be organized in Delhi, highlighting the government’s dedication to preserving and promoting traditional festivals.
With Bihar’s elections approaching, the emphasis on Chhath Puja celebrations also reflects the importance of engaging with the region’s diaspora in the national capital, strengthening ties and ensuring their cultural practices are honored with respect and enthusiasm.
Delhi’s vibrant Chhath Puja preparations under CM Rekha Gupta’s leadership promise a safe, memorable, and spiritually enriching experience for thousands of devotees this year.
