During the ongoing session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Deputy Speaker Rouri presented the committee’s report, recommending the approval of Supplementary Demands for various government departments.
While addressing the House, Deputy Speaker Rouri highlighted the importance of these additional financial allocations beyond the initially sanctioned budget. He explained that although the Assembly allocates funds to different departments, unforeseen needs often arise, necessitating supplementary provisions for public welfare programs, judicial mandates, and new government policies. He emphasized that these additional funds are essential for the seamless implementation of key projects and initiatives.
After a comprehensive review, the Estimates Committee has recommended the approval of these Supplementary Demands to ensure the smooth execution of government schemes. The additional funds will be directed toward several crucial sectors. In agriculture and farmer welfare, subsidies will be provided for machinery under the Crop Residue Management Scheme, support will be extended under the School Scheme, and financial assistance will be given to sugarcane farmers. Infrastructure development will also see a significant boost, with funds allocated for the repair and modernization of 127 rural roads across 21 districts, warehouse renovations, and infrastructure enhancements in Verka dairies.
The health and public welfare sector will benefit from the procurement of essential medicines for ESI hospitals and dispensaries. Additionally, public safety will be strengthened through upgrades to the State Police Department, improving law enforcement and security measures. Environmental initiatives have also been considered, with funds earmarked for wastewater treatment improvements in Ludhiana’s dyeing industry.
Urban development projects under the Smart City initiatives and AMRUT Mission will be supported through these funds, while the irrigation and water resources sector will receive funding for canal renovations and repairs. The establishment of sugar complexes has also been included in the supplementary allocations to boost the industrial and agricultural sectors.
