Deva Movie Breakdown: Shahid Kapoor’s Performance & the Supporting Cast

Shahid Kapoor’s Performance:

Shahid Kapoor as Dev Ambre is undoubtedly the highlight of Deva. He brings a raw, emotional depth to the character, making Dev a complex, layered figure. Before his accident, Dev is shown as a rebellious and abrasive cop, but after losing his memory, Shahid shows a more vulnerable side of the character. His performance is gripping, as he shifts between the tough, confident Dev (Dev A) and the confused, helpless version of himself after the accident (Dev B). Shahid nails both these versions, making his character feel real and relatable.

At times, Shahid Kapoor’s portrayal of Dev gets a little over-the-top, especially in emotional moments, but overall, he does a fantastic job of capturing the essence of a man who is struggling with his identity and his past. His performance alone makes Deva worth watching.

Supporting Cast:

Pooja Hegde plays Diya, Dev’s girlfriend, but her role doesn’t get enough attention. While her character plays an important part, she isn’t fully explored in the film. Kubbra Sait has a small but impactful role as Deepti, a cop, though her character feels underused. Pavail Gulati and Pravessh Rana also give solid performances, supporting Shahid Kapoor’s character well.

The chemistry between Shahid Kapoor and Pavail Gulati, especially in the early parts of the movie, helps add some emotional weight to the story. However, some of these relationships could have been explored more to make the film even more compelling.

Direction and Cinematography

Rosshan Andrrews does a great job directing Deva. The film moves from suspenseful to emotional moments, keeping the audience hooked on Dev’s journey. While the first half is a bit slow, it’s important to build the character and mystery. The second half picks up with darker, more intense scenes that keep the tension high.

Amit Roy’s cinematography gives the film a raw, gritty feel. The camera work really adds excitement to the action scenes, which are well-choreographed by stunt directors like Anal Arasu and Supreme Sundar. However, some of the visual effects feel a bit too much and take away from the movie’s tough and realistic vibe.
