No Second Season for ‘Dexter: Original Sin,’ Sources Confirm
Paramount+ with SHOWTIME has officially pulled the plug on Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel series to the iconic crime drama Dexter, despite a previous announcement that the show had been renewed for a second season.

Sources tell Variety that although a Season 2 renewal was made public in April 2025, the series has actually been on indefinite hiatus. No production dates were ever scheduled, and plans for a second season never progressed beyond the early stages. The decision marks a surprising turn for fans who had anticipated a deeper dive into the origins of Dexter Morgan.
Dexter: Original Sin premiered in December 2024 and wrapped up its first — and now only — season in February 2025. The series starred Patrick Gibson (The OA) as a young Dexter Morgan, tracing the early years of the future serial killer as he began to channel his dark urges under the guidance of his adoptive father Harry, played by Christian Slater. The show also featured Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, Dexter’s sister.
