As part of heightened security measures ahead of the Vaisakhi festival and following Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directives, Punjab’s Director General of Police, DGP Gaurav Yadav carried out late-night inspections in Jalandhar and Amritsar on the night between Friday and Saturday. The visits were conducted under the statewide ‘Night Domination’ operation, aimed at reviewing police preparedness, intensifying crime prevention, and strengthening public trust in law enforcement.
The operation ran from 10 PM to 4 AM across all 28 police districts of Punjab. Senior officers, including Spl DGPs, ADGPs, IGPs, and DIGs from the Punjab Police Headquarters, were assigned to oversee operations at the district level. District police chiefs (CPs/SSPs) were instructed to deploy maximum force for the drive, which involved vehicle checks, identification of suspicious individuals at checkpoints (Nakas), security checks at railway stations and bus stands, and review of patrol units at key locations.
During his visit to Jalandhar,DGP Gaurav Yadav began with a stop near the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where he evaluated the vehicle checking processes and interacted with both officers and civilians. He later visited Division No. 7 Police Station in Urban Estate and monitored operations near Dussehra Ground in Jalandhar Cantonment.
Joined by Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, the DGP Gaurav Yadav also listened to public feedback. Residents expressed a sense of security due to increased police visibility. “It’s encouraging to know that our presence is reassuring citizens. The Punjab Police is dedicated to both safety and transparency,” he noted.
Speaking to the media, DGP Gaurav Yadav emphasized Punjab’s position as a border state, making it susceptible to external threats from agencies like Pakistan-based ISI, which seek to disrupt peace. He highlighted the impact of the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ (War Against Drugs) campaign, which has dealt a significant blow to drug networks. He reiterated the state’s resolve to continue the crackdown on narcotics and safeguard public safety.
Later, the DGP Gaurav Yadav visited Amritsar to assess ongoing night patrols. Accompanied by CP Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, he urged officers to remain vigilant, especially in the lead-up to the Vaisakhi celebrations.
Special DGP Gaurav Yadav (Law & Order) Arpit Shukla provided details of the operation, revealing that over 1000 police teams involving 6500+ personnel, led by 221 senior officers, were deployed across Punjab. A total of 651 strong checkpoints (Nakas) were set up at strategic locations. During the operation, police filed 26 FIRs and arrested 48 suspects while verifying the credentials of suspicious individuals.
