CJP spokesperson expresses disappointment over Diljit Dosanjh’s “artist not politician” remark after he distanced himself from Jantar Mantar protest.
A controversy has emerged after actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh distanced himself from a recent protest at Jantar Mantar, stating that he is “an artist, not a politician.”
The remarks did not go down well with spokesperson Saurav Das of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), who expressed disappointment over the singer’s response. The CJP, a satirical digital collective that has recently been active in protests related to youth and education issues, is currently demonstrating in Delhi over the NEET paper leak issue and other policy concerns.
Reacting to Diljit’s comments, Saurav Das said he was “a little upset” and felt that public figures like Diljit should use their influence to speak about social and youth-related issues. He added that while Diljit inspires millions through his music, he should also address public movements and concerns through his words.

The controversy began after Diljit Dosanjh interacted with fans during an Instagram Live session, where he was asked about the Jantar Mantar protest. Responding to the query, he said he was unaware of the protest and requested to be kept away from political matters, reiterating that he identifies solely as an artist.
He further added that he does not have clarity on the protest’s background and chose not to comment, saying that he prefers to remain neutral on such issues.
Meanwhile, the CJP spokesperson criticized the stance, stating that silence from influential personalities often disappoints young supporters who look up to them for awareness and guidance.
Diljit Dosanjh was last seen in Imtiaz Ali’s film Main Vaapas Aaunga, alongside Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari. The film explores a love story set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan partition and has received attention for its emotional narrative.
