Punjab’s Maan Government is taking significant steps to improve the welfare of senior citizens and modernize Anganwadi centers across the state. Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur highlighted the government’s efforts during a press conference, emphasizing initiatives in pensions, old-age homes, and educational reforms.
Initiatives for Elderly Welfare
Dr. Baljit Kaur explained that under the “Maan Government Elderly Welfare Program”, special camps are being organized for senior citizens throughout the state. Additionally, two new old-age homes have been constructed in Tapa and Mansa at a cost of ₹17.33 crore. The government is prioritizing the physical and mental well-being of seniors, including proper arrangements for nutrition and healthcare.
The state has also provided grants exceeding ₹11 crore to institutions contributing to elderly welfare. Currently, 23,62,579 senior citizens receive pensions, and fraudulent pension beneficiaries have been identified, resulting in ₹170 crore recovery.

Modernization of Anganwadi Centers
Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that the Maan Government Anganwadi Modernization Initiative is converting Anganwadi centers into primary education hubs with standardized curricula. The government is also facilitating the registration of private play schools. These reforms aim to ensure quality early childhood education and care across Punjab.
