Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR) to Celebrate Foundation Day on January 4th, 2025 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi
Established on January 4, 1985, The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) will celebrate its 40th Foundation Day on 4th January, 2025 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath, New Delhi.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, and Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensionsto preside over as chief guest the Guest of Honor, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India. Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Secretary, DSIR & DG, CSIR, to address the foundation day celebration.
DSIR’s Foundation Day highlights its role in advancing industrial research and innovation through various programs. These include recognizing in-house R&D centers, SIROs, and public-funded institutions to strengthen research ecosystems. The PRISM scheme supports innovators and MSMEs to drive inclusive growth, while the PACE scheme facilitates the development of innovative technologies.
The CRTDH program fosters MSME growth by providing shared infrastructure and technology support. Under the A2K+ scheme, DSIR promotes collaboration, studies in emerging technologies, and women’s empowerment through initiatives like TDUPW and Skill Satellite Centres, driving inclusive and sustainable development.
The highlight of the Foundation Day would be the exchange of technology transfer between CSIR and Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB). Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB) is a registered Section 8 Company of Micro and Small Industries in India with presence in more than 575 districts in 27 States of India with more than 51000 members. The foundation will not only commemorate the establishment of this esteemed Department but also provide a meaningful opportunity to reflect on and celebrate its journey, achievements, and significant contributions to the field of science. This special occasion unites our dedicated scientists, researchers, and collaborators in a spirit of camaraderie and shared vision.
DSIR’s primary mandate is to promote indigenous industrial research by focusing on technology development, transfer, and utilization. The department aims to encourage industries to engage in research and development (R&D) to create commercially viable and globally competitive technologies.
DSIR administers Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), an autonomous organization, and two public sector enterprises—National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) and Central Electronics Ltd (CEL). Additionally, it hosts and supports the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT), a regional institution under the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP). This comprehensive framework highlights DSIR’s dedication to advancing scientific and industrial progress nationwide.
