Education Minister Madan Dilawar stressed on the importance of water conservation and said that everyone should worry about their future and take active part in the efforts to save water. He was speaking as the chief guest at an awareness programme organised by the district administration and watershed department at Lakhawali pond in Badgaon Panchayat Samiti, Udaipur on Wednesday. He pointed out that our ancestors have explained the importance of every drop of water, and community efforts to conserve water sources have improved the ground water table.
Traditional water sources need to be respected.
Education Minister Madan said that the government is working at its own level, but the general public also has to take the responsibility of water conservation. He called for special focus on rainwater harvesting, water harvesting and cleaning of water sources. Emphasizing on protecting and respecting traditional water sources, he said that water itself is a form of God and it is our duty to preserve it. He appealed to the people to make community efforts for cleaning and rejuvenation of stepwells, wells and ponds.
Emphasis on control of groundwater exploitation and cow protection
Stressing on the need to stop over-exploitation of ground water, Education Minister Madan said that many areas are still reeling under water crisis where digging of new tubewells is not allowed. He said that healthy ground water level will lead to increase in agricultural production. At the same time, he highlighted the importance of cow protection and said that the use of cow dung is essential for organic farming and maintaining soil fertility.
Special attention is paid to the protection of the environment and planting trees.
The Minister thanked the Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma for the budget announcement of setting up of Utensils Bank in Gram Panchayats and informed that this will reduce the use of plastic and disposable utensils, which will benefit the environment and health. Calling for greater plantation, he informed that last year 7 crore saplings were planted, and this year the target is to take it to 10 crore.
Inauguration of development works
During the programme, Education Minister Madan inspected the exhibits put up by Rajivika and Watershed Department and performed Jal Puja at Lakhawali Talab Ghat. After this, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various development projects in the area and also planted trees on the banks of the pond. The Coffee Table Book of the first phase of Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan 2.0 was also released on the occasion.
On this occasion, MLA Najar Singh Manshahia, DC Mohinderpal, SDM Sagar Setia, Chairman Zila Parishad Bikram Mofar, Chairman Market Committee Gian Chand Singla, Kulwant Rai Singla, Ranjit Kaur Bhatti and Chairman Block Samiti Karamjit Kaur were also present.
