Elon Musk isn’t holding back when it comes to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s recent strategy of offering sky-high salaries to attract AI talent. In a recent post, Musk pointed out that his AI startup, xAI, has been able to bring on some of Meta’s best engineers—not by throwing piles of cash at them, but by sharing a compelling vision. “Many strong Meta engineers have and are joining xAI, and without the need for insane initial comp,” he said, making it clear that people are drawn by more than just a paycheck.
He added that while xAI offers “great” salaries, they’re not the kind of unsustainable offers Meta is rumored to be making. His message to Zuckerberg? “Do something great and your comp can shift substantially higher.”
